We have extensive experience advising clients concerning a wide variety of land use matters and assisting them with the land use permitting process in an increasingly complex legal environment. Our expertise includes:
Assisting property owners in negotiating Development Agreements for complex projects. These projects include Saint John’s Health Center, Related California’s Civic Center Village Project, The Arboretum, Maguire Thomas Partners’ Ocean Avenue office building, the Cathedral City Entertainment Center, and the Oxnard Downtown Theatre Project.
Helping clients obtain conventional land use approvals, including conditional use permits, variances, subdivision approvals and development review permits.
Representing clients in historic preservation matters. We help clients analyze the threshold question of whether a property qualifies as an historic resource. We also assist clients in obtaining permits for the adaptive reuse of historic buildings.
Assisting clients with land use policy matters, including General Plans, Specific Plans, Area Plans and Zoning Ordinances.
Working with clients in other specialized land use areas. This includes obtaining alcohol CUPs and licenses, coastal development permits, municipal business licenses, and affordable housing approvals. We also assist clients with code enforcement actions and residential rent control matters.
Assisting clients concerning compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act including securing approvals for EIRs, Statements of Overriding Considerations, Negative Declarations and CEQA exemption determinations.
Assisting clients in preparing annual development agreement compliance reports for submittal to the City of Santa Monica. We also assist clients with potential compliance issues in working with the City to ensure compliance is obtained.
